FM89 listeners will soon notice a new voice on the radio in the mornings. Reporter Jeffrey Hess will join the station’s news staff in March, providing local news within Morning Edition. He will also contribute reports to Valley Edition and other FM89 programs on issues from government and public policy to health care. Hess will join FM89’s Marv Allen, who will continue to host Morning Edition.
“We’re excited to have a reporter of Jeffrey’s caliber join our team,” says Valley Public Radio’s Director of Program Content. “I think listeners will appreciate the additional local news as they start their day, as well as Jeffrey’s in-depth reporting on important issues.”
Hess comes to the San Joaquin Valley after four years at Mississippi Public Broadcasting, where he covered state government in Jackson. An Ohio native, Hess has worked as a broadcast journalist for nearly 10 years, including time at stations in Texas and Florida. In addition to covering state politics in Mississippi, Hess has also covered the world of health care as a Kaiser Health News fellow, where his stories aired nationally on NPR.
